Who We Are
African Men for Sexual Health and Rights (AMSHeR) is an organization dedicated to promoting an empowered and healthy life for MSM/LGBT people in Africa. We believe in upholding human rights for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our Priorities
Our main priority is to address the numerous human rights violations faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, as well as men who have sex with men (MSM) in Africa. Same-sex sexual practices are currently outlawed in most African countries, leading to stigma, discrimination, and limited access to essential healthcare and support services.
Our Approach
At AMSHeR, we take a comprehensive approach in our advocacy and support for the LGBT and MSM communities. We work on both a social and policy level to create sustainable change. Our activities include:
- Promoting awareness and understanding of sexual health and rights issues
- Building organizational capacities and strengths
- Advocating for improved protection of human rights for all individuals
- Providing access to clinical programs and responsive models to meet the specific health and rights needs of the LGBT and MSM communities
