Lakes always provide a beautiful backdrop for photographs, but have you ever wondered which lakes are the most 'Instagrammable' to visit?

The Lake District in England looks great in photos

You may feel inspired by a study conducted by Showerstoyou.co.uk, which carried out an analysis of the most 'Instagrammable' lakes in the world. At the time of research, the study revealed that the Lake District in England was first with 2,951,548 hashtags. As the area is made up of many lakes, the researchers decided to consider it as a whole because it is famous for its glacial water strips. It is England's most popular national park and 15 million people come to explore it every year.

Lake Tahoe came second

Lake Tahoe came second with 2,459,104 hashtags. Located between California and Nevada, it is the second deepest lake in the United States and at 1,897 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest elevation lakes in the country. Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes and came third with 2,208,442 hashtags. The survey revealed that the US is a popular destination for lake lovers, containing 35 per cent of the world's most 'Instagrammed' lakes.

Lake Como in Italy came fourth with 1,412,597 hashtags. The fifth deepest lake in Europe, its luxury tourist area is known for its magnificent scenery, situated in the foothills of the Alps.

The rest of the lakes in the top 10 included another of the Great Lakes Lake Erie with 863,446 hashtags, Lake Superior in Canada with 832,139, West Lake in China with 814,434, Loch Ness in Scotland with 528,075 and Crater Lake in Oregon with 429,825 hashtags.
